Joining in the Spirit of the Sports Season

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family;

The Olympics have started and we have a Super Bowl winner! I find joy in these events that help our world feel a little more unified at a time when the world feels so divisive.

Due to the cold winter weather the January BirthDay Brunch was cancelled. However, no fret, we will be combining/ ‘unifying’ the January and February BirthDay Brunches for celebrants and friends on Wednesday, February 18 at 9:30-11:30. Please RSVP by Friday, February 13 for great food, fun and fellowship. The Calvin Nursing Students will also be offering part II of their presentation on Mental Health First Aid at 10:45-11:15 on Wednesday, February 18th.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT: New Topic– This month, Joslin will be focusing on “assistive technology” in the Technology Support classes on Wednesday, February 11th and 25th at 10:00-11:30. The term Assistive Technology can refer to many things, but in this series Joslin will focus on services and equipment such as audio books, speech to text, Alexa type devices to help with setting timers and reminders, as well as pairing hearing aids and speakers to your phone via Bluetooth. Bring your questions and learn more ways in which technology can work FOR you!

New Stress Less with Mindfulness: Starts Tuesday, February 17 at 10:30-11:30. See attachment. Georgina Guzman from MSU-Ext is back to offer classes on “Mindfulness: Stress for Less.” Research has shown that practicing mindfulness is effective in reducing stress-related symptoms such as depression, anxiety and physical tension that may contribute to chronic health-related issues. This 4-week series will focus on simple behavioral movements, healthier eating patterns, mindful walking, control over negative thoughts, improved self-compassion, and ways to include laughter for the “health of it.” You may come to all five or pick and choose which classes best suit your needs. I imagine Olympic athletes practice mindfulness regularly! FREE! RSVP

Get your game on!! Friday, February 13 @ 9:30-1:30 is the Bus trip to Gun Lake Casino. RSVP. See attachment.
