In receiving, we give back

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family:

I am always amazed at two things as I continue to meet new people and experience new opportunities through Young at Heart. People are always willing to share and help others. In turn that reciprocates as members learn and help others. Sometimes its a simple car ride to an appointment or to YAH. Sometimes its sharing a tidbit of information, or making a card or quilt for one less fortunate. YAH is fortunate to have many organizations that contiune to share their resources with our participants. Here are a few topics that do not get much press time, but are valuable programs being offered at Young at Heart.

Join the Calvin Student Nurses as they present on these topics at 10:30 in the Gathering Room

  • Wednesday, February 19: Nutrition – How to read food labels with examples of healthy foods.
  • Wednesday, February 26: Mental Health – Strategies to lower anxiety and keep the brain sharp

Joslyn from Senior Neighbors will be providing Technology Support at 10:00 in the Conference Room on the following subjects:

  • Wednesday, February 26: Smart Watches
  • Wednesday, March 5: Photos
  • Wednesday, March 12: Videos
  • Wednesday, March 26: AI- How does it work?

March is approaching FAST!!! Here is the calendar for March, as well as a flyer that highlights some of the activities. It is shaping up to be a VERY busy but exciting month! We are hoping you will consider joining us for our Mardis Gras party, and our St. Patrick’s Day festivities. The following are examples of how our participants give back:

  • We will be offering an opportunity to paint Soup Bowls/ Mugs for God’s Kitchen between March 10 – March 19.  RSVP for your bowl/mug and time slot .
  • Also note, one of our friends will be offering a travelogue about their experiences on an African Safari. This has been rescheduled for Monday, March 31 at 12:45 due to a previous snow storm.
  • Not only is March Basketball Madness Month, it is also National Reading Month. Young at Heart will be heading over to Coit Creative Arts Academy and reading to the students. If you love to read, want to help others to read, or would like to instill the value of reading in the children, please reach out and let us know. We will get you on the schedule. You can bring your favorite children’s book, or you can use one the school has on hand. Want to bring along a friend and do it together? No problem. The more the merrier!! Contact YAH as soon as possible to get you on the schedule. Lots of time slots currently available.

Lastly, one of the most important events we will be holding in March is an opportunity for you to hear all about

“What’s Happenin’ at Young at Heart.” This will be a 15-20 minute presentation introducing you to some of the Board Members and significant volunteers, a quick review on the status of the program, and an overview of the budget. We will be open to answering any of your questions, or listening to your concerns. We hope to continue our tradition of keeping you informed and helping you make this be YOUR program. There will be two different opportunities for you to participate: Monday, March 10 at 11:00-11:30, just before the Cooking Class; or Monday, March 31 at 12:15-12:45, during lunch and just before the travelogue. The meetings will take place in the Gathering Lounge.

Hope to see you soon as either a beneficiary of someone’s great service, as a donor of services, or as one who receives and in receiving gives back!

Young at Heart benefits from all of YOU!
