Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family;
It has been a beautiful May so far… the countless May flowers are showing off their full glory! It is no wonder May is such a busy month.
Below are pictures from the “You Go Girl” Pickleball event, where YAH had a promotional table and had a free drawing for a pickleball net, and a paddles/balls set.
This Saturday, May 17 between 9-12 is the Creston Pancake Breakfast at Reservoir Restaurant. YAH and many of our neighbors will have informational booths as well as a few local vendors. Free Pancakes. This will be a great chance to see some friends and meet the new Director, Alex Karaceiwicz.
The Male Schubert Concert is also this Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 at Calvin University. Music from the 60’s will help you remember the excitement of a different era.
Monday, May 19, 12:00-2:00 is our yearly Spring Tea and Baby Shower. Ani and Raquel from Lighthouse for Teen Moms, will be offering a presentation and accepting any donations for the new moms they serve. We will have a fun lunch, lots of tea and tasty desserts. Cost for lunch is $6.00. Please RSVP.
Tuesday, May 20 at 10:00, also at Calvin University is the monthly Savvy Seniors Event. “Embracing Your Gifts,” is the theme this month. Dr. Don VerHulst, MD; Mark Bennink, Spiritual Care Advisor/Chaplain from Hospice of Michigan; and myself, representing the Young at Heart, will be the three guest presenters. This is a Free event and a great resource each month for learning about local resources that primarily serve Seniors. Tickets are required. I hope to see a few familiar faces.
Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30-8:00 is the first in our three part Speaker Series. Award winning author Sherry Burton will be speaking on the historical event in which young orphans from New York were sent west on “Orphan Trains.” Ms. Burton has written a series of historically accurate books depicting the journey of these young survivors. This will be a very moving and enlightening evening. Light Refreshments will be provided. Cost is $10.00. Bring a “New-to-YAH Friend” for $5.00. Please RSVP. 2nd Church will be holding a Blood Drive from 2:30-6:30. Come early, and you can donate blood.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Monday, June 2 at 12:00-2:00, in honor of fathers, YAH will be having a “Beer, Brats and Burgers” Luncheon. Cost for lunch is $6.00. Bring a donated item to support single-fathers.
