Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family;
Here’s What Happenin’: Oh so much fun…
1. Monday, we had some participants start to paint bowls for God’s Kitchen. The bowls will be available for painting through Wednesday, March 19. If you wish to paint, the cost is $8.00 if you donate the bowl back to God’s Kitchen. If you wish to keep the bowl, the cost is $10.00. This is a fun way to support God’s Kitchen, an organization that feeds the homeless in G.R.

2. YAH held its first, “What’s Happenin’ at YAH,” a presentation on the status of affairs at Young at Heart Senior Enrichment Center. Participants had an opportunity to meet some of the Board Members, hear a summary of the strengths and challenges YAH faces and the financial status. The meeting was well attended. If you missed the first one, the presentation will be repeated on Monday, March 31 at 12:15. Ask your questions. Share your ideas. What is your vision for growth?

3. Our YAH Readers have begun to share their talents with the students at Coit Arts Academy. One of our readers met a surprise visitor while she was there. If you are interested in reading, reach out and we can get you on the schedule.

Make your reservations today for our St. Patrick’s Day luncheon. YAH will be serving Irish Stew and Soda Bread from Curragh Restaurant in Holland. Dalriada, a Celtic Trio, will be providing live entertainment. We hope you can join the festivities! Lunch is $8.00. We will be collecting a donation for Dalriada.
The GVSU Public Health Students have prepared a fun, informative, health-conscious St. Patrick’s Day event for you this Saturday, March 15 from 1:00-5:00. You may come at any time or stay the whole time. There will be two different groups of students providing services such as leading games, health-related activities, and providing some snacks to get you through the day!
THANK YOU:
1. The Rezervoir Lounge, “The Rez,” provided YAH a discount on our Mardis Gras fare. We enjoyed generous helpings of Jambalaya and Gumbo.
2. Jean Silbar’s granddaughter, Olivia, made Girl Scout cookies available to many last week. Thank you, Olivia!!!
In Sympathy: YAH lost another one of its participants, Harry Balicki. Prior to COVID, Harry and his partner Shirley Dutkiewicz enjoyed BINGO and lunches with other YAH participants. Harry was a WWII Veteran. May he Rest in Peace. https://obits.mlive.com/us/obituaries/grandrapids/name/harry-balicki-obituary?id=57746933
Socializing, physical activity and challenging the brain are simple ways to age well. Hope you are all well!
