Hot Topics for August

 Dear Young at Heart Friends and Family;

August is a busy and important month at YAH!  Here are just a variety of reasons:

 1)    Tuesday, August 2nd is the day Kent County Residents vote on the Senior Millage. This is simply a vote to renew the current millage. There is no request to increase the tax millage. Here is a description as reported by MLive on June 2, 2022. “Voters will decide on renewing the Kent County Senior Millage for eight years, from 2023 to 2030, at the current millage rate of 0.50 mills. Kent County Senior Millage Committee officials say the tax translates to a little less than $8.40 a month, or about $100.75 a year, for the average homeowner.

Officials with the committee say more than 22,000 Kent County residents ages 60 and older received support last year through 51 different servicested across 32 agencies.  “Services, such as home delivered meals, transportation and personal care to name a few, are more important than ever to the seniors that rely on them to age at home and in their own communities.” Other services include home repairs, healthy aging classes, dental, hearing and vision services, adaptive equipment and more. About 130,000 seniors live in Kent County, according to the millage committee. Voters first approved the millage in 1998, then again in 2006 and 2014.

This Millage is crucial to the funding of the Young at Heart Program. So, PLEASE vote on Tuesday, August 2nd and support the 130,000 Seniors and those who will become 60+ over the next eight years.
