August 2021: Week Five

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family,

Summer continues and so does the Young at Heart! We continue to strive to offer activities that are healthy, fun, encouraging and safe during these confusing times. We have some sad but hopeful news, a correction, activity summaries and additional information for upcoming events.  We look forward to seeing you!

Computer Class put on hold: It is with great sadness that I inform you, our computer instructor passed away suddenly over the weekend. Our condolences to the family. Many of you have expressed an interest in this class. We will search for another instructor. If you have any leads for a class facilitator, please feel free to pass them along.

📖  One correction:  The Happy Bookers Book Club will be reading/discussing, “The Drummond Girls: A Story of Fierce Friendship Beyond Time and Chance” by Michigan author, Mardi Link. (Not The Firekeeper’s Daughter, as printed on the September calendar.) I apologize for the confusion. The Book Club will meet Tuesday, September 21st @11:00 in Room 304. Social distancing is available in this classroom. Face masks are encouraged.

🌳  PHOTOS: We had a wonderful outing to the Leila Arboretum despite the warm weather. We were blessed with a docent who shared the history of the area, as well as one of the original chainsaw carvers who was instrumental in the creation of Fantasy Forest. The display is a budding endeavor with more plans for the future.

Great Presentation: We had a wonderful turn-out for Part One of Roger Relich’s presentation on the theories behind the assassination of JFK. He was pleased with the questions and level of participation. We hope to see you back on September 8th. We will be serving dessert at 6:30, with the presentation starting at 7:00pm. We will meet in the cafeteria to allow for social distancing. Please RSVP.

🍷 Upcoming Events: On Wednesday, September 1st we will be going to Robinette’s Apple Haus and Winery for lunch and wine tasting. Please get your RSVP in soon to help plan transportation and the winetasting portion of this outing. Wine tasting includes your choice of six samples. Cost is $3.00 and includes a souvenir glass. If you have previously purchased a glass, you may do the wine tasting for free. What a deal!!!

God’s Peace and stay healthy!
