Autumn Chills

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family,
🍂  We are finally starting to see some Fall Colors… I hope you get a chance to enjoy them before the rain takes them all down. What a fun day we had at Heritage Orchards in Fremont.  We encourage you to bring any of your young at heart of all ages out for some Autumn fun! Warm cider, games and cute animals will take the chill out of the air…
🎃  This Saturday is the Fall Craft Sale at St. Isidores, 9:00-4:00. Come inside, stop by our booth and say “Hi” while you make some early Christmas purchases. Wear a festive mask to be a part of the fun and stay safe.
🍁  Our long-awaited Yoga starts this week Wednesday at Noon!!! We hope you can join us! Another great way to stay warm and healthy!
👻  Upcoming Presentation I want to highlight!  Monday, November 1st will be a presentation on the ever complicated Medicare – Medicaid enrollment. We will have both an insurance agent, Teresa Schissler-Boichot of Boichot Insurance Co., as well as a sales representative, Victoria Fought, from HAP.  They will help us navigate the system, explain terminology, and outline options.  There is always something to learn, in this complex and ever changing healthcare system. A delicious lunch of Potato-Ham soup and Ham sandwiches will be served at 12:30, before the 1:00 presentation.  Please RSVP for lunch and/or the presentation to help us provide adequate spacing.
Warm and dry Blessings,
Virginia

Autumn Gratitude

While the leaves may be falling, 🍂🍁  we are happy to report, the young at heart are NOT!!!  Sr. Diane Zerfas’ Prayer Series is off to a great start, and we had a comfortable turn-out for the travelogue on India. Tomorrow, with a good Fall forecast, it is off to the color tour and hayride in Fremont!  I am so grateful to share such wonderful resources with others! I am grateful to St. Alphonsus that we have a great space to continue our programs safely during this on-going pandemic.

🎃Attached is the Calendar of Events for November as well as our schedule for the Walking Club.    Please note:

  • There will be no Tai Chi classes in November due to the instructor’s vacation plans.
  • The watercolor class will start another 6-week segment starting November 16th-Dec 21st.  If you missed the first series, no problem. Betty will meet you where you are at in your skill level.  Please call or email to register.

🎃  It is time to sign up and check out Yoga! (Poster attached). I have heard many of you talking about your interest in the class.  Irma will be holding her first class next  Wednesday, October 27th at Noon. Please let us know if you plan to attend so we can find the best place for spacing.

🎃  Lastly, keep your survey responses coming!  (Attached). The more responses the better, as this is YOUR program!  Let us know what YOU want!!!  Young at Heart, thanks you !!

Autumn Blessings!   🍁🎃🍂

🍂🍁  Fall is here and YAH is off to a glorious start!  One of the things this means at the Young at Heart is that it’s time for our yearly survey.  Please complete one of these surveys and drop it off at St. Al’s.  We do appreciate your feedback.  This survey takes a few seconds, but it helps us to maintain support from the Kent County Senior Millage for a whole year! We encourage everyone to complete it, regardless of the frequency of which you attend.
Here’s the fun stuff…

  • 🍁 The watercolor class started with a splash of color last week!

This will meet Wednesdays, October 13, 20, 27 at 10:00-11:00 in the Parish Center. Please RSVP to help us plan for the most comfortable location.

🍁🍁 Oh, so much fun!!!  🙂🤗
In the meantime, we are still looking for someone to lead our computer class. Let me know if you have any leads or suggestions!

Fall is full of changes. While change can be difficult, it often opens a door to new opportunities. One of our recent changes is the October 20th Hayride. Due to a scheduling error, we have changed the location of our lunch and hayride. We will be taking a Fall Color tour up to Fremont, where we will be eating a boxed lunch at Heritage Orchards, then taking a hayride that stops and visits the bison and elk on the property. Cost of the boxed lunch is $8.29, and the hayride is $5.00.  If you are interested, please RSVP vscholten18@gmail.com or call 616.913.4419 as soon as possible so we can get your boxed lunch order. We look forward to you joining for the Fall fun. Forecast is predicting sunny, 60, no chances of rain!!!

We wish to extend a Thank you to all the volunteers as well as those of you who attended our Craft Show and Bake Sale. You helped us to raise $450.00!  THANK  YOU!!
We will also have a booth at the Craft Sale at St. Isidore’s on Saturday, October 30th 9:00-3:00.  Please feel free to stop by and support YAH as well as our neighbors.

Our Three-week Series on Prayer Styles, presented by Sr. Diane Zerfas starts this week Wednesday, October 13th at 10:00. You are welcome to attend any or all of the series.

Next week Monday, October 18th at 1:00-2:00 is the travelogue on India, presented by ‘world-travelers’, Mike and Teri Firlik. Lunch prior will be pumpkin soup and/or chili, salad, zucchini muffins and a Fall dessert. Cost for lunch is $5.00. Please RSVP if you wish to attend lunch and/or the travelogue. We want to make sure we allow plenty of space for comfortable safe social distancing.

Lastly,  if you have not completed our yearly survey, please take the time to give us your feedback. I have attached a copy. You may scan and email your response to vscholten18@gmail.com; mail it to St. Alphonsus, 224 Carrier NE, GR, 49505, Attn: Young at Heart; or drop it off at the office.  We greatly appreciate your input!   Thank you so much!
