From Chocolate to Fish Frys

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family;

Happy Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday Blessings.

Our love for chocolate sure was enjoyed at Monday’s Cooking Class! Thankfully it was balanced with homemade chili. The Ginger Chef (along with her volunteers) and Chef Sue outdid themselves!! Next month we will feature breakfast foods!

Monday, February 19 at 12:45-1:45,  starts our series from “The Great Courses” featuring the “World’s Greatest Geological Wonders.” This series reflects on amazing Earth- the beauty, the power, the evolution of an ever-changing environment and the ways nature adapts and thrives. If you love Natural Sciences, as well as travel, you are sure to enjoy these mini lectures brought to us through a video series. RSVP is appreciated.

Our February BirthDay Brunch is fast approaching. Here are the honored Birthday Celebrants. Please wish them a HaPpY BiRtHDaY! Sue Atchinson, Vanessa Beane, Debbie Bradcoski, Ralph Cooper, Barb Farrey, Linda Hart, Mary Hormuth, Lynn Jachim, Toni Johnson, Myrna Mann, Jo McGavin, Diane Ritzke, Joan Sundsmo, Terry Wilks, John Yowaish, Roger Szubinski, and Frank Madura. LOOKING AHEAD:

  • In March we will be “Helping the Sewers” as they prepare several items for the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Baby Showers. The Sewers are looking for anyone who is willing to help cut fabric for quilts, balls, or teddy bears, as well as people who can help stuff some balls and bears. This project is a lot of fun when done as a community. Join us on Monday mornings March 4 or 11 at 9:30-11:30.
  • Reserve Monday, March 11 at 1:15 for an Irish Festival. An Irish Trio with a Banjo/Fiddler, a Harper, and a Mandolin/Guitar player who will bring us music fit for some dancing leprechauns. Five green bills gets you in for this jolly good time!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

  • Many of us are either in the sandwich generation, or know someone who is taking care of children/grandchildren, while also caring for aging parents. Attached is a link to an event sponsored by Crossroads Eldercare Options; “How Will You Care For Your Aging Parents?” It aims to cover Housing Options, Community Resources and Financial Decisions. Please pass this resource on to anyone you know who may benefit. The event is scheduled for Thursday, February 29 at 6:00 pm.

Don’t forget, this Friday, February 16 at 4:30 starts the legendary Fish Frys at St. Alphonsus! You don’t want to miss out on this delicious Community Event, excellent walleye, and tasty desserts!

Lenten Blessings!
