July 4th Blessings

Hello Young at Heart Friends and Family,

I apologize for the delayed posting.

Can you believe next week is July 4th?? It has been a beautiful summer for outdoor activities. I sure hope all stay safe during the heat, and this dry spell. Please keep the farmers and the vulnerable in your prayers. Say a Prayer of Thanksgiving for our American Freedoms.

GOOD NEWS:  We will be resuming our Technology Classes/ Drop in Program.  The VanBelkum Branch of the Grand Rapids Public Library will be offering services at St. Alphonsus through the Young at Heart Program. The classes will start on Monday, July 11th at 2:00-3:00.  The instructor for July 11th-July 25th will be Liesl DeJonge. There will be a break the first week in August, with classes resuming August 8th. While the instructors work out the final details, I will plan to send a more detailed flyer next week.

Our “Sailing on Desire” FUNDRAISER is well underway. Tickets for the drawing can be purchased through YAH directly, from the Parish Office, or after the Masses the weekend of July 9th-10th. For $25.00 your name is entered into a drawing for a 3 hour sailboat ride out of Douglas, MI. Snacks will be available as well as a chance for you to help hoist the sails. There will be four winners. Each winner is welcome to invite a guest. See the attached flyer for more information.   If you are available to help with the sale of tickets after the Masses on July 9th-10th, please let me know. Please share this flyer with your friends and family. This is a fun opportunity.

Lastly, We will be closed Monday, July 4th. But we will resume pickleball on July 5th, and a picnic at Mary Waters Park on Wednesday, July 6th. We will meet at the park around 9:30, paint bowls for God’s Kitchen Soups On! Fundraiser, and have a picnic around noon.  Please check with your exercise instructor as to where those classes will be held on that day. They have been invited to hold class at the park, weather permitting. Cost for the picnic lunch is $5.00. Please RSVP. Menu is Pulled Pork Sandwiches, salads, chips and dessert. Picnic Tables are provided. Bring your own lawn chair if you wish.

Blessed Fourth!
